Oskar Schlemmer. Bauhaus Stairway. Oil on canvas. 63 7/8 x 45" (162.3 x 114.3 cm). The Museum of Modern Art, New York.
So the MoMA has done it again! Now through January 25, 2010 you can brush up on your Bauhaus history with MoMA’s interative website: Bauhaus; Workshops for Modernity . There you will be guided through the history of Bauhaus, get to see some rare photographs of the studios, and peruse selected works. My favorite part was the “Kandinsky Questionaire” in which you answer a simple question relating to colors and shapes and your answers are compared to fellow peers and Kandinsky himself! (the best part is that there are no “wrong” answers)
Of course, the website kinda takes a backseat to the actual exhibition which has found it’s home on the 6th floor of the museum
Not enough for you? If you’re going to be visiting the MoMA anytime soon, be sure to check out their calendar for special in-house workshops related to Bauhaus culture and techniques. Ooooh, today is tote-making!

Amazing that two decades after Warhol’s death the prices for his work are continuing to raise. Usually they skyrocket after the artist’s death, but then pretty much stay the same unless the demand increases…like in Warhol’s case. Now there’s everything from actual soup cans to, you guessed it, condoms!
Do you think this demand was caused by the emergence of the “scene-ter” or the fantastical dream of every young woman to sleep with the crazy-white haired artist? Perhaps BOTH!

At any rate, it looks like people everywhere are willing to pay a pretty penny for their very own Warhol goodies. Am I above this craze? Absolutely not. Who wants soup?! You know you wanna read more about this hoopla here!

This morning as I was eating my cereal I read an article in Phycology today about the benefits of Art therapy. Incredibly interesting! I thought I’d share the link with you all :)
It seems we depend on art morethan you would think! It provides a therapy in which you don’t have to talk to express your emotions, and I’d bet even if you’re one of those people who think expressing your feelings is for “pansies”, you benefit subconsciously from artistic endeavors.

Sooo check out this iPhone app. It’s basically the coolest, easiest app since sliced bread. Basically, you open the guy up and search for the artist’s name or genre and BAM! There’s all the pieces you could ask for.
The review for this app can be found at Appvee.com, or as I found it, through good ol’ youtube.
Sorry blackberry and old school cell-phone users… looks like iPhone has taken the cake for this one.

WARNING! If you’ve got a weak stomach for bad design I wouldn’t recommend watching this video. There’s some language, too :) Thank you to Ben Pierce for sharing this with me this morning.

Oo La La!
French artist Pierre Soulages is having a retrospective of his work at the presitigious Centre Pompidou this month.
What’s so cool about this 90 year old man? He paints primarily in BLACK! He also dresses in all black. This is incredibly cool to me being a fellow artist who also paints in mainly black (www.savenikki.com). Does this remind anyone of Franz Kline’s work, or is it just me?

there’s no better way to wake up than with some inspirational pieces by Michel Keck. the layering is just…*sigh* fabulous. i could drone on and on about the technical correctness and color appropriation of these pieces, but I won’t. it is sunday afterall, and i figure i should spare y’all the torment.
in the end, art is loved because it’s loved. simple as that. enjoy!
